While there are yearly reports of auto accidents in the state of New Mexico, the number and frequencies of these events could be reduced if drivers were simply more careful. Accidents may be caused by a malfunctioning traffic light, slippery roads or even a negligent driver. Furthermore, there are even those rare occasions when an accident maybe caused intentionally, like the bicycle accident that happened recently in Albuquerque.
According to reports, a 19-year-old and a 53-year-old were involved in a physical altercation at a park. Sometime later, they each left the park. On the way out, the 53-year-old noticed the 19-year-old riding his bicycle and then intentionally ran over him with his van. The cyclist was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition. The driver of the van was arrested after the incident. He is accused of aggravated DWI, attempt to commit a violent felony, tampering with evidence and aggravated battery.
Bicyclists are vulnerable on the road and incidents like this can put their lives in jeopardy. Many bicyclists fear that they may be involved in an auto accident which can cause broken bones, fractures and other serious injuries. They are also aware that some bicyclists die from the serious injuries caused by these accidents. Therefore, many bicyclists do all that they can to prevent such accidents and take all possible safety precautions, including wearing a helmet.
Since some accidents are related to negligent driving, authorities and other independent sources are conducting programs that focus on safe driving. However, incidents related to drunk driving, texting and driving and distracted driving are still far too common. Such accidents can lead to emotional as well as financial losses for the victims. A personal injury claim could help them recover a monetary award for the losses and damages related to the accident.
Anyone who is injured in this kind of accident may choose to file a claim for compensation from the negligent driver. The victim may seek damages for all of their losses, including pain and suffering, caused by the accident. It is important to understand the steps involved in the process. It can be complex to navigate through, especially if they are dealing with a rough recovery and are sorting through the financial burdens associated with the incident.
