Bicycle accidents in New Mexico can be avoided

On Behalf of | Sep 11, 2014 | Uncategorized |

Bicycling is a fantastic way to keep fit. Many people in the Albuquerque area enjoy cycling since there is a good network of flat trails and mountain biking trails in the town. Many people also enjoy cycling on the roads and city streets. Cyclists must be aware, however, of the applicable traffic laws and the dangers of riding a bike on city streets.

Most cyclists are aware that they are less protected on the road than those in cars, buses and trucks. They can more easily suffer broken bones, fractures, spinal cord or head injuries or other serious injuries. They may also potentially need hospitalization and rehabilitation. They may not be able to work or their injuries may seriously affect their earning capability.

Wearing bright clothes and a helmet and paying attention to traffic are all important for bicyclists. Many bicyclists ride safe in areas that are designated for cycling. Accidents can still happen, however, due to a variety of reasons. As stated previously in our blog, four bicyclists were killed in accidents in the state in 2011.

If you have been injured in a bicycle accident caused by a negligent driver you have the right to bring a personal injury lawsuit against the driver. You may be entitled to recover monetary damages for medical expenses, loss of income and pain and suffering.
