Drivers in New Mexico might adhere to the rules of the road and operate their vehicles as safely as possible, but in certain instances even that cannot provide protection from a car accident. These crashes can lead to severe injuries and fatalities. When there is an automobile accident, those who were involved and, in cases of a fatality, the family left behind may need to know what must be done to pursue compensation through a legal case.
A recent head-on collision between two vehicles resulted in the death of a man and his passenger being severely injured. The man who died was age 65, and from outside of New Mexico. The accident was a result of a tractor-trailer crossing the median of the road and hitting the deceased man’s vehicle. The passenger suffered critical injuries. No one in the truck was hurt and a law enforcement investigation is ongoing to determine why the truck crossed into the opposite lanes.
There are many issues that have to be sorted out in cases like the above, where injuries or fatalities occur from a car accident. With injuries, the injured party might need to be hospitalized for an extended period and require rehabilitative treatment to try and return to some semblance of normalcy. It is possible that he or she will never again be able to work and might require extensive help to function on a daily basis putting a strain on the family and its finances. When there is an untimely death, the family left behind will not only be deprived of the companionship of a loved one, but they will also miss the financial contribution that person might have provided. This all has to be taken into consideration before accepting a settlement from the insurance company or deciding against a legal filing.
In this incident, a man from another state was in New Mexico and unfortunately lost his life in a head-on collision. While the investigation into the auto accident is moving forward to determine how and why it happened, the family of the man and the injured passenger may consider protecting their rights by discussing a lawsuit with a legal professional.
