Sad news broke recently when it came to light a family’s SUV has been involved in a car accident with another vehicle. Three New Mexico family members, including a young child, lost their lives in the car crash. After a police investigation, it has been reported that a New Mexico man is allegedly responsible for the crash. The worst part is the accident and loss of life could have been avoided, had the man not been driving drunk.

The man has officially been charged with three counts of vehicular homicide, amongst other charges. The drunk driving accident occurred when the man swerved suddenly into oncoming traffic, thereby striking the family’s SUV, killing 3 and causing injury to 4. The tragedy is almost unimaginable for the family and friends. However, other New Mexico residents understand how sudden and real this tragedy can be, having experienced it first-hand.

The injured family members will need the help of loved ones and friends, in order to begin to sort through the tragedy that has befallen them. After the immediate funeral needs are addressed, many wonder: what next? If the person responsible for an accident can be proven to be intoxicated at the time of the crash, there may be a way to potentially hold him responsible for damages incurred.

There is much that family and friends need to decide after a tragedy like the one that befell this New Mexico family. While all may seem lost, there are options in times like this. While so many will luckily never know the pain associated with an accident and tragedy like this, some do. For those who do, consider all legal options before coming to a decision about how to deal with the short and long-term expenses associated with vehicular homicide and car accident injuries.
