A serious car accident happened recently in New Mexico. In it, a teen girl who was a promising high school sports star lost her life. Friends and family members have mourned by setting up a memorial at the crash site.
The girl was riding in a Ford Explorer, heading down U.S. Route 491. Her sister was behind the wheel and her brother was riding in the front passenger seat. The three children were simply heading to their father’s house for a visit.
Their mother has been trying to sort out what happened, and she detailed an unexpected accident. The teens were driving south and the other car was going north. She says that the other driver then veered over the median and hit the SUV. She believes they were almost involved in a head-on crash, but the teen who was driving attempted to avoid it. As she swerved, the impact instead hit the side of the vehicle. The girl who lost her life was sitting right in that impact zone.
It appears that FBI agents have arrested the driver. He is facing charges for reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter. He was also hurt in the crash and is now in the hospital, where authorities are monitoring him.
The teen’s mother said that she and the girl’s father went to the accident scene. When they arrived, officials did not want them to get too close, instead telling them to remember all of the joyful memories with their daughter.
