Aggressive driving can cause car accidents

In most contentious scenarios, defaulting to aggression may not be the best means of resolving the issue. The same rule applies when it comes to operating a motor vehicle on the road. However, aggressive driving is a reality that many motorists in New Mexico might have witnessed numerous times. In addition to witnessing car accidents, those people may also agree that the aggressive driver’s actions put their safety at risk.

In order to understand the situation better, a survey conducted by the American Automobile Association’s Foundation for Traffic Safety may make things clear. According to that survey, eight of every 10 drivers ranked aggressive driving as a “serious” or “extremely serious” hazard that puts them at risk of being involved in an auto accident. The concern is understandable because the AAA study found that more than half of all traffic-related fatalities in the country were related to aggressive driving.

Some of this aggressive behavior may be able to be explained by the attitude many drivers have in regards to speed and aggression. In AAA’s Traffic Safety Culture Index, half of all drivers in the index admitted to travelling faster than the posted highway and neighborhood speed limit by more than 15 percent in the last 30 days.

Aggressive driving is, however, still a serious issue. Sadly, the consequences of such aggressive driving are often not only serious for the aggressive driver but also for other motorists and pedestrians who share the road. Therefore, in the event of an accident where the circumstances clearly suggest that the other driver was driving aggressively, the car-accident victims may benefit if they choose to consult a lawyer and hold the negligent driver liable for unjustified aggressive behavior and for the pain and suffering that were caused by that negligence.
