There are few things as traumatic as losing a loved one in a car accident. Understandably, the families and loved ones of victims who have lost their lives in these instances often feel a variety of emotions. Sometimes, they may feel outraged, and wish to hold the driver who caused the accident responsible. This is often the case when the other driver displayed some form of negligence at the time of the crash, including such reprehensible actions as reckless driving and driving while intoxicated.

One family may be coping with these emotions after, according to reports, a recent fatal accident occurred in New Mexico involving a driver who was suspected of driving while intoxicated. Sadly, three people were killed in the accident. Authorities say the suspected drunk driver, a 23-year-old man, drove into an intersection and disregarded a red light. As a result, the man’s vehicle struck another car that was carrying three people. The three victims were in their twenties. Two of the three people died at the scene of the accident. The third was taken to a hospital and passed away shortly after.

The suspected drunk driver is now facing criminal charges. These include one count each of aggravated DUI, three counts of vehicular homicide, and a red light violation. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Victims are often lucky to walk away from a car crash with only injuries. Many victims tragically do not survive a car accident. The families of these victims are often left with many devastating emotional burdens. They may also be burdened with costs associated with the crash, such as medical and funeral costs and lost wages. Thankfully, by pursuing compensation from the driver at fault via a wrongful death lawsuit, victims and their loved ones may be able to recover these financial losses and find the peace of mind they deserve.
