A young mother of four and resident of New Mexico was on her way back from working her shift when tragedy struck. Drunk driving accidents are reported to cause 1 or 3 deaths on roads across the nation – this woman’s early death looks to be another tragedy related to this statistic.
The car crash occurred at the intersection of Albuquerque’s intersection of Lomas and Pennsylvania. Authorities say the alleged negligent driver ran a red light at that intersection and crashed directly into the woman’s car, which was traveling westbound. The deceased worked nights and was reportedly on her way to pick up her four children when the crash occurred. According to court records, the accused was convicted of DUI in 2012 and is being held on $35,000 bond due to being charged with vehicular homicide on account of her alleged actions in this fatal accident.
The impact was so great that it flipped both the victim’s and the alleged drunk driver’s cars over the concrete barrier on Lomas Boulevard. This accident has left many mourning the loss of the young mother.
Drunk driving accidents are too common, especially on our New Mexico streets. If the alleged was in fact intoxicated at the time of the crash, then an unnecessary loss of life resulted from one personss poor decision.
For those who have suffered incredible loss, like the woman’s children, there are ways to recover for negligent driving behavior. This would happen outside of the criminal justice system; it is a separate case for the civil courts. The family may consider how a wrongful death suit could help to ease the financial burden and emotional loss the family, and especially the woman’s children, will and have suffered due to the unexpected loss of their mother.
